Based in the Sutherland Shire, and founded over 50 years ago by a small group of camera enthusiasts.  The club was originally based in Caringbah, and first known as the ‘Caringbah Photographic Society’.  In 1965 the club moved to the Cronulla School of Arts and changed its name to reflect the new location.

​From the outset the camera club offered a syllabus of meetings that included competition nights and regular lectures, intended both to inspire keen photographers and encourage beginners. Photographic outings helped forge friendships and ‘set subjects’ were incorporated into the program to challenge member’s creativity.

​Having commenced with a group of seven in 1953 the club grew ten-fold after only two years. Affiliation was made with the NSW Federation of Camera Clubs and annual competitions were established with camera clubs from other districts.  Some members submitted photographs to State and International competitions and an annual exhibition was created to display member’s work to the general public.

​Over the decades, whilst photography technology has evolved, and membership numbers continually fluctuate, the Port Hacking Camera Club maintains its original objective and syllabus objectives. The club’s longevity is largely due to the support of its membership and the special efforts of individual members, five of whom have been recognised with life membership.
