Competitions

Each month there are 4 categories of competition which may be entered by members:

Digital - Open
Digital - Set Subject
Print - Open
Print - Mono

ENTRY RULES

Each member may enter two images in each category
An image may only be entered in one category and if that image wins an award, the same image (or essentially the same) cannot be entered again in any club competition during that competition year.
Images for the set subject category must be taken within the last 12 months of each competition.
Images for the Open category have no time limit.

POINTS SCORE

Entry 1 point | Credit 3 points | Merit 5 points

Total scores in each category over the competition year determine first, second and third place awards in our annual club exhibition.

JUDGING

A guest judge from outside the club is invited to critique images submitted by members (these are submitted anonymously).
The judge award points for each image based on composition, quality and ‘story’ of the photo and/or interpretation of the set subject definitions.
Each entry submitted is automatically awarded 1 point. Thereafter based on the Judges critique can be awarded a further 3 points (credit) or 5 points (merit). The judge will also provide verbal feedback of the image.
At the end of each category, the judge will select 2 favourites from those awarded a merit and credit where the PHCC members are then able to vote for their overall favourite of the night.

Digital COmpetition

There are 2 themes for the Digital Category:

Open
Set Subject

Set subject definitions are announced on the Syllabus and emailed to members before each competition night.

Digital image entry requirements:

maximum dimensions 1920 pixels wide X 1080 pixels high

sRGB colour space

.jpg file

File size maximum: 3 MB

Digital Images are to be emailed to the Digital Comp Secretary by midnight on the Wednesday 2 weeks prior to competition meeting. Members will receive a reminder email one week prior to the due date.

FILE NAMING CONVENTIONS

Digital entries must follow the file naming conventions below:

Open Theme: <entry number><PHCC Member Id> <image title>

e.g: (Entry No 1) 1P149 Mother Earth

e.g: (Entry 2) 2P149 Jump

Digital Theme: As above with <SS> added before each entry number

e.g: (Entry No 1) SS1P149 Sunshine

e.g: (Entry 2) SS2P149 Head North

Print Competition

There are 2 themes for the Print Category:

Open
Monochrome

All prints must be mounted and have the photographer's number and image title on the back, lower left corner.

Prints must be brought with you on competition night, accompanied by an entry form and handed in by 7.15 on the night to allow time for the meeting to start at 7.30m sharp.

If you're unable to make the competition night, please make arrangements for a fellow member to bring your prints on competition night and send your entry form to the Competition Secretary.
